Good Runner, Bad Blogger

You know how the story goes. Haven't been too motivated on the blogging front and I have been busy. So here is life in mostly pictures since I last saw y'all.
I have been running, here I am with my friend James and my brother Willie. Besides the regular 6 milers and some trail runs I have gotten in a 17 miler and a 19 miler. Marathon is December 3. Image by Lide.

My brother Willie and his girlfriend Lide came to visit. Lide is an archaeologist. We spent lots of time exploring all kinds of neat places I don't normally go. The Natchez Trace has all kinds of historical locations to check out as well as lovely old trees.

We found lots of old cemeteries, regular ones and slave ones too.

We visited the Emerald Mound, the second largest Indian mound in the USA. White explorers marveled at its height and structure and were sure that some other white people must have come before them to build it, because there was no way those "savages" could be smart enough to build such a structure. Guess they were wrong.

The next day we headed to the coast. Lide had never been to the Gulf of Mexico, so getting our feet wet in the sweet warm waters was a priority. Lide looks pretty happy.

Another priority was to explore all the wreckage still left behind by Katrina. We found all that was left of a bank, the vault. Here I am trying to move the rusted solid steel door. No luck!

Home sites along the Gulf. These foundations are pretty much as they were the day after the storm. Scrubbed clean by the storm surge. In this location we would have been some 30 feet below the water line.

The remains of a once elegant casino and resort.

Over five years, and little has changed.

Men's room. Ladies room.

Not all is bad. Lots of new places are popping up all over. We found this great restaurant on the waterfront in Bay Saint Louis and ended our day with shrimp po-boys and local Abita beer!

I really like to Urban explore, its fun, a bit sad, because its all ruins, if you ever goto Detroit, you have to urban explore downtown, to see such old great buildings and how they were a part of the city back in the 20s 30s 40s and the state they are in now, you can almost feel the history

Those are really cool photos! I read a mystery book set in Natchez Trace so it's neat to see what it looks like.

It's amazing all that is still wrong from an old tragedy. Looks like you had a good time together though.

We used to go to this little restaurant in Gulf Shores that had the best shrimp poboys EVER. That pic just reminded me of a long ago life I haven't re-visited in years!

What a nice time with your family and love that you explored the remnants of what once was. Sad, for sure, but also pretty cool is a crazy way, huh? So glad new development has occurred, a new chapter in life!! :)

Happy to hear the miles are going strong (what marathon are you doing in December?).

Love ya!!! :)

Thanks for sharing your experience. I marvel at the thought of what was lost, but cherish what is being rebuilt. Nice pics, esp the boys and girls room. Take care.

Love all of the great photos. Old cemeteries are so interesting. When I see the old dates, I always wonder what kind of life a particular person lived. Glad you had such a neat visit with your family and to hear that your running is going so well. Keep up the great work!
